She Turned a Stack of Broken Pallets Into the Most Beautiful Garden on the Street

When Maria moved into her rented ground-floor flat, the so-called garden was a slab of cracked concrete hemmed in by grey walls. She had almost no budget, no permission to make permanent changes, and a long list of reasons to leave it as it was. Instead, she looked at the free wooden pallets piling up behind a nearby shop and saw the beginnings of something.

Over a few weekends she broke the pallets down, sanded the rough edges, and rebuilt them into planters, a vertical herb wall, and a simple bench. Everything was removable, nothing damaged the property, and the cost was little more than soil, screws, and seeds.
